Albany Becomes Emerald City for 2017 NYAPT Summer Conference
Scores of school transportation directors, drivers and technicians FOLLOWED THE YELLOW BUS ROAD at the New York Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) conference in Albany between July 15 and 19. The proceedings, including daylong training workshops, motivational speakers and the annual trade show helped keep experienced pros and newcomers to transportation informed and updated.
NYAPT used The Wizard of Oz as the theme for this year’s program. In keeping with that motif, Matthews Buses provided a gift basket that included ruby slippers, a GPS, Gas Card, Kansas CD and TOTO as its grand prize, won by Duanesburg Transportation Director Karen Weiler.
Matthews Buses displayed a Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 School Bus with three-point seat belts on the grounds of the conference’s host hotel, the Albany Marriott on Wolf Rd. Also on display was a Thomas HDX School Bus built with many of the creature comforts of a coach bus. The unit is part of the fleet at the Jericho School district and has helped them provide school bus safety on a bus designed for sports and field trip transportation, eliminating the need to hire coach buses for such trips.
Thomas Northeast Regional Sales Manager Tommy Smith was in attendance, along with his counterpart in service, Steve Groat. They joined the entire Matthews sales team in manning the trade show, as did Matthews Service Director John Metzler and Parts Manager Rich Groves.
Matthews Buses, in its 50th year of serving the School Transportation needs of New York State, continued its longstanding tradition of supporting NYAPT at the annual event.
