bmartinez - Friday May 28, 2010

Matthews Buses, Inc. proudly presented Leon District Schools with the first delivery of eight, Compressed Natural Gas fueled, Thomas Built HDX 84 passenger buses. Additional buses are to be delivered this year! Leon District Schools is also installing fast fill locations with expectations of Natural Gas Vehicle expansion.

Congratulations to Leon District Schools for leading the State of Florida in breaking the addiction to “foreign oil” and protecting our environment with emission reduction. The fuel cost is expected to be 50% of current diesel costs! Superintendent Jackie Pons invites districts to contact or visit this summer for a CNG tour.

Natural Gas has a reported 100 year plus reserve domestically. NG is transported to the fueling locations at low pressures via pipeline then compressed to higher pressures to meet suitable capacities. In available locations it is currently used in home heating, water heaters, cooking and even refueling private automobiles while at home, never having the need to visit a refueling station! As demand grows in more populated areas lines are being extended for future use. In automobiles the emissions are reported to be up to 85% less than other fuels with extended Life Cycles due to the clean burn!

This naturally occurring fuel is claimed to be the future of transportation and independence from foreign sources. California, Texas and other states have been using Natural Gas for years in School transportation and in Municipal transportation.

“It’s not good enough anymore to talk about the benefits of going green; it’s time to do it. Several vehicle fleets throughout the country have already converted to CNG, and according to the EPA the cleanest internal-combustion vehicles on the road today are powered by CNG. Some day in the future, I hope everyone in the Tallahassee area will have the option of buying CNG for their own personal cars and trucks.”
