SAF T LINER C2 HYBRID: Thomas Built Buses has developed a Hybrid Saf-T-Liner ® C2 bus that will reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. And with the support of Daimler, their parent company and the world leader in hybrid technology, the future looks green.

Daimler has created an initiative called “Shaping Future Transportation”. The idea is simple: Reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of commercial vehicles. And with a fleet of 3,000 trucks and buses using alternative fuel systems now in operation, they’ve done just that. Because of their extensive research and experience, Daimler brands like Thomas Built Buses are positioned to continue providing innovative hybrid solutions.

Thomas Built Buses is currently testing a prototype Hybrid C2 with the goal of reducing emissions and improving fuel economy by up to 30 percent or more. Working closely with both Eaton Corporation and Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation has enabled us to develop a smart, earth-friendly hybrid drivetrain.

For more than past two years the system has been tested in stop–and–go duty cycles. Current tests reveal a fuel savings of 300 to 450 gallons per year based on annual mileage of 10,000 miles. Fuel economy isn’t the only benefit. Reduced brake wear, component maintenance and quieter operation are advantages as well.

As the leading manufacturer of school buses in North America, TBB continues delivering innovative vehicles that are safe, durable and reliable.
